The Audition Room was Positively Arts’ first ever full-length original musical held March 12th & 13th at Super Summer Theater Studios. Written by Positively Arts’ founder Pilita Simpson as an expression of the times and places in a child’s life where they feel judged, overwhelmed, and full of stress and anxiety. For some, that place could be an actual audition room, for others it’s that moment before they take a test, or have a job interview, or that moment in class right before they have to talk.
Every child has a situation where anxiety and fear take over, and they cannot be the best versions of themselves. The Audition Room became an opportunity for kids to work through all their fears, take back that control, and realize that this space or place is actually an opportunity. It is something they “get to” do instead of something they “have to” do.
The students helped to co-write this musical by sharing their fears and passions throughout the process. The journey through The Audition Room not only shows the children that they have the power to shine in their darkest moments, but also enlightens the audience to the struggles and doubts their kiddos face on a daily basis.
The finale song, “There’s Only One Me,” written and composed by Disney Talent Casting’s, Juan Cantú, shows kids that their superpower is being unique and true to themselves. The whole audience was up on their feet singing and clapping along as the cast sang, “There’s only one me and that’s my superpower. You’ll see, it’s my finest hour. I’m free to just express myself, no need to fit the norm. Not gonna second guess my passion to perform cuz there’s only one me!”
With so many rave reviews, we plan on scheduling an encore performance this Fall so everyone can come along with us on this journey of triumph, overcoming your fears, and actualizing your dreams!
Special thanks to the Nevada Arts Council for sponsoring the production of The Audition Room!
